Hastings Cancer Trust 2026 Grant Applications

The Hastings Cancer Trust is now calling for applications for its 2026 round of grants.

Grants are available to support projects that benefit cancer patients, survivors, and caregivers within the local community.

Who Can Apply

Healthcare providers and community organisations located in the Hastings, Camden Haven, and Macleay districts are eligible to apply.

Funding Priorities

When reviewing applications, the directors will give priority to projects that:

  • Benefit the greatest number of cancer patients and people recovering from cancer.
  • Provide detailed costings, allowing the directors to consider partial funding if full funding is not available.
  • Include matching funding sources, which will be viewed favourably.

Key Dates

  • Applications open on the first Monday in August 2026.
  • Applications close at 5.00 pm on the first Friday in October 2026.
  • Applicants will be advised of the outcome of their application in early October.
  • Successful applicants will be invited to a certificate presentation ceremony in November. The date and venue will be advised.

The Grants Program has contributed more than $2,500,000 to projects in our community, helping local organisations improve cancer care, support services and patient outcomes.


What grants can support

Purchasing state-of-the-art equipment for cancer treatment

Supporting world-class clinical trials

Providing specialist training for nurses, radiation therapists and other cancer care clinicians

Improving the quality of local palliative care

Developing educational resources, workshops and support programs for local cancer patients and their families


Application outcomes

Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by email in early October. Successful applicants will be invited to attend a formal certificate presentation in November 2026, with the date to be advised.

Kirsty Baxter from the MNCCI accepted a grant funded by a donation to the HCT through the Port City Bowling Club Community Grants Grants program for the purchase of 2 Bamback saddle seats and a HemoCure analyser. 

The certificate was presented by David Gearing and Katy-Lee Waldron.

MNCCI &amp; PMBH Speech Pathology

MNCCI & PMBH Speech Pathology

Klint Goers & Rachel Hathaway from the MNCCI & PMBH speech pathology depts accepted a grant certificate from Chris Kirkman, the area manager of Angove Family Winemakers $11,100. 

The grant will be used to purchase a Nasendoscope, a piece of equipment not previously available in our local health district.

Raelene Myers, representing new supporter of the HCT, Essential Energy presented Dr Stephen Begbie a certificate for $1,500 which will support a young local cancer professional to attend a conference which will enhance their skills

Hastings Home Hospice

Hastings Home Hospice

Jenny Delroy and Lyn Morrissey of the Hastings Home Hospice were handed a grant certificate by Jodie Barry, representing the CBA Business Banking group. 

 The CBA donated $10,000 to the HCT this year which easily covered the purchase of three mattress replacement systems. The mattresses will provide palliative care cancer patients more comfort in their own homes.

Natalie West, of Diverging Pathways, is now able to continue to provide an oncology pathways exercise program for local cancer patients through any stage of their treatment and recovery. 

 This is due to a grant to the HCT from the Heart of Courage team.

Wauchope Palliative Care Unit

Wauchope Palliative Care Unit

Brendon and Kate Roods from Emerald Downs Golf Course have been major supporters of the work done by the HCT for many years and have raised many thousands of dollars through the annual golf day fundraiser. 

They open up their beautiful course for the event, support the Friends in arranging it and donate all green fees paid by the participants. This fabulous support enabled the HCT to provide a grant to the Wauchope Palliative Care Unit of $14,757 to purchase a hydraulic assist layback commode shower chair. 

 Mary Trotter accepted the grant certificate from Brendon and Kate and spoke of the many benefits of the chair, both to the patients and the staff caring for them. 

Around 80% of patients that are cared for in their final days by the amazing staff at the Unit are cancer patients.

Kris Jurd had heard about PICC line shower covers from a contact in Sydney and made further enquiries about the advantages they would have for her patients at the MNCCI. 

The very positive feedback that she received regarding the convenience of the covers for cancer patients showering and even enjoying leisure time being able to sit by the pool while watching the grandkids without the risk of getting their cannula wet prompted her to apply for a grant to purchase a supply of the covers for her patients. 

Selwyn & Jeannie Peake from George & Matilda Eyecare were happy to be sponsors of our golf day and were very pleased to award the certificate to Kris.

Dr Georgia Ritchie spoke about the amazing work that the nursing staff at the MNCCI do every day, and about the dedication they have to their work and the desire to improve their skills which in turn benefits the cancer patients who are enduring possibly the toughest days of their lives. 

 Dr Ritchie was successful in receiving a grant of $3,000 to provide a travel voucher to four of these "Angels" to assist with the cost of them attending a training conference to enhance their skills. 

Deputy Mayor, Lauren Edwards presented the grant certificate to Dr Ritchie.

 Pauline Smith & Dan Abel from the MNCLHD Community Palliative Care team accepted a grant certificate of $7,642 from Kristian Murphy of HEM for the purchase of 3 oxygen concentrators and 1 portable oxygen concentrator. 

Kristian, Naomi & David from HEM have supported the HCT in their vision of filling the gaps between what government funding can provide and the actual needs of the care providers for several years and have pledged their support again in 2025.

 Cody Morris spoke passionately about her project which is to create a welcoming, safe and supportive atmosphere for Aboriginal palliative care patients at the Wauchope Palliative Care Unit.

Bec & Mel from Heart of Courage were gratified to hear that the focus of their fundraising and the subsequent donation to the HCT is being realised through Cody's project.

Simone Smith from the MNCCI was successful with two grant applications. Both projects are aimed at "Closing the Gap" in Aboriginal Health Care. 

Simone and Shirley Kent from the Kempsey Community Centre spoke about the need for Aboriginal communities to be provided with essential knowledge and resources for cancer prevention, early detection and support. 

One of the grants will be used to host cancer awareness days. 

 Another part of a grant will be to hold Healing on Country projects. These would be 1 or 2 day gatherings for Aboriginal women addressing grief and loss experienced due to cancer.

The trustees and friends of the HCT are very proud to be able to award a grant of $120,000 to Dr Baerin Houghton for the purchase of a processor to support an Endobronchial Ultrasound, a state of the art diagnostic piece of equipment currently not available on the Mid North Coast. Naomi Hunter and Kristian Murphy from HEM Property are equally as proud to have joined forces with Shane Gregory from CrossFit2444 to raise $26,000 which will be allocated directly to the purchase. The MNCCI Clinical Trial Unit received a 2023 grant of $5,300 which will partially fund the purchase of an ECG machine. Brendon & Katy Roods presented the certificate to Kiran Buckley and Victoria Miller.

Chris Kirkman from Angove Family Winemakers presented a grant certificate for $9,000 to Melissa Court and Nez Cook from the Wauchope District Memorial Hospital surgical unit. The funds will be used to purchase a Colposcope for the unit. The Colposcope is highly effective in preventing the development of cervical cancer. The scope is currently not available at the Wauchope Hospital. This grant was partially funded by a donation from the Wauchope Patchwork Quilters.
